Job Description

On behalf of the TOCs and RDG your job will be to support and guide internal and external colleagues, partners, and stakeholders as they undertake their accreditation obligations. Your time will be shared, working within our accreditation team, and checking and validating rail retailing systems within our accreditation area. You can expect to have contact with.

  • Ticketing system developers
  • Public internet retailers
  • Internal functions including Project Teams, Marketing, Retail Partnerships, Service Delivery and Retail Strategy
  • Technology suppliers
  • Service providers
  • TOCs
  • Industry bodies (rail and non-rail)
  • Government agencies

What can I expect to do in this job? 

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:

  • Conducting testing activities associated with the checking of evidence presented for accreditation.
  • Managing the relationships with the stakeholders to provide guidance and support, identify and escalate issues to them and to other areas of RDG as well as advise/ participate in resolutions.
  • Producing clear and detailed documentation, obtain client approvals, as well as ensuring that tools in use such as ASSIST /JIRA is updated on a timely basis to provide an accurate audit trail for each accreditation. Accurately recording and communicating accreditation decisions.
  • Reviewing complex technical documentation both internally and externally
  • Writing technical compliance reviews​​​​​​
  • Checking evidence provided meets industry standards​​​​​
  • Checking data is written in line with industry standards​​​​​​
  • Contribute to technical standards reviews
  • Checking that retail systems operate to industry standards and in line with their conditions of approval
  • Writing and approving test plans where applicable, updating internal test library with test cases
  • Extracting data from various systems and analysing for non compliance or to prove accuracy
  • Maintaining concise records of works carried out for clear audit trails
  • Acting as a liaison between the supplier/TOC whilst systems are in accreditation
  • Recording time spent on accreditations in order for billing to take place

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and keen professional to join our team and help our internal colleagues and external partners understand and meet their assurance obligations within the agreed timescales.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong analytical background and have an understanding and appreciation of working to challenging deadlines but at the same time will be able to offer guidance and support. You will have a zest for learning and will want to positively contribute towards making our accreditation teams the respective services they are.
  • A sound technical background will be ideal but not mandatory.
  • Experience of being able to review system documentation supplied by TIS Suppliers who are developing/maintaining TIS. The analyst should be able to derive from said documents how systems being presented for accreditation function and what amended/new features are being introduced in any given release.
  • Experience of working in multi stakeholder environment, managing stakeholder relationships and ability to work as part of immediate and wider teams.
  • Experience of working with a risk based approach is essential in the role.
  • Ability to identify gaps in information, seek clarifications and provide written accurate findings in a Compliance Review document.
  • Knowledge of checking evidence being submitted by TIS Suppliers in support of their accreditation, is sufficient to meet the requirements of the applicable RSP Standards which the software is being tested against.
  • Skilled in identifying and recording areas of non compliance and the impact this may have on industry systems, settlement or other areas of the retail landscape.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a full understanding of the SDCI+ language that is used to write the sales data to the settlement system. They will be required to ensure that settlement records submitted to test systems during the accreditation process are accurate and compliant with RDG Standards and continue to monitor this during the live pilot operation of the system when data is submitted to live systems.
  • Understanding of XML and CTR data for Interoperable ticket on departure scenarios
  • Understanding of ITSO/Barcodes fulfilment methods as well as more traditional methods of fulfilment
  • Able to record and maintain accurate and timely data in ASSIST/JIRA Incident Management System relating to accreditations that are being undertaken and any incidents that may arise in accreditation or live pilot running.
  • Able to extract, understand and analyse multiple data sets.
  • Understanding of other co-related industry systems such as RARS, LSM etc
  • Able to work on multiple work packages at the same time
  • Knowledge of UK rail retail is advantageous as this is a complex area and this knowledge forms the basis for the role.
