Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most pressing global health threats of our time, occurring when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve to withstand the medicines designed to kill them, making common infections harder or even impossible to treat. At NNAST (Nigeria National Antimicrobial Stewardship Technical Working Group), we are committed to strengthening Nigeria’s response to this crisis by supporting the implementation of the National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance, expanding surveillance, promoting responsible use of antimicrobials, and enhancing public awareness and healthcare capacity to protect communities nationwide. Our work bridges policy, research, education, and clinical practice to ensure safer antibiotic use, better diagnostics, and stronger health systems, helping slow the spread of drug-resistant “superbugs” and safeguard public health for future generations.
